Madoff, a name synonymous with the word “sleeze”. A name now found in the Dictionary under “scuzzbag”. A name now associated as the Poster Child for Greed. At least according to all the rich folk who have lost a mil or two. When’s this “rich against rich” crime gonna end man?!

For the rest of us, we really don’t give a sweet shit who Bernard Madoff is, or what he did or what he didn’t do. We don’t care who he screwed over and how many millions they lost.

We shed no tear for those who have so much and have lost a mere pittance in comparison to their wealth. To have 100 million and to lose 30 million – tough tickety-boo.

Lately, there’s been a mini witch hunt for white collar crime and those who commit them - Martha Stewart, Jeffrey Skilling, Andrew Fastow and Kenneth Lay (Enron), Bernardn Ebbers (WorldCom Inc.), Mark Swartz and Dennis Kozlowski (Tyco), John Rigas (Adelphia Communications), and Conrad Black to name a few. The money that these nards swindled alone could have probably feed everybody in Africa for a year.

And so the mighty have thrown a few of their brethren to the masses to be hung. This keeps the masses happy with merry thoughts of retribution against the evil, wealthy overlords. And then the ‘Keepers of the List of the Wealthy’ - Forbes, dropped 232 names off its rich humans list. Egads, will the slaughter ever end?

The reason the world economy is in such a mess is very simple – the rich got greedier.

They want more and more because they never seem to have enough. Why does any human being on this planet have the right to hoard the amount of monies that they do?

Who really needs one, five, or a hundred billion dollars? What the hell ya gonna do with it?

And guess who else is to blame over this wee mess? You, me, the neighbour and Auntie Gertrude.

Yes people, it’s our fault. Why? You might ask. How? You ponder.

Because we consume. We buy every goddamn stupid piece of crap that’s produced and the idiots who run this silly planet reap all the rewards of both our labour and our consumption. And then we ask for more things to buy because we just can’t seem to help ourselves. Mon dieu, we’re stupid.

But there’s another question here in the middle of this wild, wild economy mess - the bail-out of major financial institutions and corporations.

Yes folks, the poor CEOs showed up with their hands open, looking for financial handouts. Everyone from bankers to car-makers, and lord only knows who else in-between. These are the rich people. Asking for mo' money. Seems weird, don’t it?

And yet…I can’t help but think that someone, somewhere, is making money during these bail-outs. I can’t help but think that all of this is some sort of cover for the rich to end up even richer. I’ll even go so far as to say that this whole global economic meltdown is some sort of bullshit. No, not trying to do the old “conspiracy theory” stuff. But something’s going on – somewhere – with someone.
